The columns are configured using the Views configuration dialog windows. To choose which columns to display, and in what order, click on the "Views..." button in the upper left of the GMAP window with the LEFT mouse button. This opens the "Column Control" window.

In this window the lefthand list "Available Column Types" shows all the drawing Types that are implemented in the software. The righthand list shows the names of the set of columns that are configured in the current View. If the circle to the left of the column name is empty, the column is not being shown, but its configuration and order in the list (top-to-bottom means left-to-right) are being maintained. To select it for drawing, click on the circle and then click "Re-Draw".
To move a column to a different place, click once on its name, then on the arrow symbol at the location where you want it to appear. To add a new column, click once on the desired Type in the lefthand list, then on the arrow at the desired location. Types shown in italics, such as "Locator" and "Scale" above, are not currently addable because the GMAP already has one and can never have more than one.
The configuration of each column includes the ability to name it anything you like, and these names are what is displayed in the right-hand column. To see what Type a column is, click on it once; its Type will be shown in the "Column type" field just above the list. In this example, the column named "Loci" is of Type Points.
To rename a column, click twice on its name and it will become a yellow editable-text box. To configure a column, click once on its name to select it, then hold down with the right mouse button and select "Configure column" from the menu.

Alternatively you can click on its name in the green bar at the bottom of the GMAP window. Either method will bring up the Configure window for that column. Different Types of columns have different configuration parameters and some have none at all. The Configure window for the column "Loci" (which is of Type Points) looks like this:

Here we have applied the query "follow locus IS unc*" to highlight with a yellow background all the unc loci. The query syntax used in these Configure boxes is the usual ACEDB syntax, except that it is applied to the current Map. Thus the query usually begins with "follow". Other sample queries:
follow main_locus // the loci that are in the Marker_loci column follow locus positive_cloneColumns that have been configured and marked to be displayed in the Column Control window will be displayed only if there are appropriate data. For information about the data conventions for populating these columns, consult the wonderful documentation of the GMAP magic tags from Sam Cartinhour and Simon Kelley, for ?Map and for ?Locus and other mappable objects.
Most columns will be displayed if the requirements just mentioned are met. However a few require additional activation. For the Two_point, Multi_point and Likelihood columns, you must also specify which locus in the Points column to display the information about. Move the mouse to the locus of interest and hold down the right button, then choose from the dropdown menu "Show data" or "Likelihood dbn".
