The Genetic Map II

Several methods are available to move around the genetic map. To the left of the map is a green bar. It is a slider bar which moves along a thinner black bar. The black bar represents the entire length of the chromosome, while the green bar indicates the proportion of the chromosome map that is being displayed in the window. Initially the whole chromosome is displayed in the window, so the black bar is covered over by the green slider bar. Click on the Zoom In button once or twice to reveal the black bar underneath. Point at the green bar with the mouse and depress the leftmost button. An outline of the green bar will appear as you drag the mouse up and down, showing where the map will be recentered when the mouse button is released. Slide the bar vertically until it reaches the position you want.

Another method is to use a cursor line that is activated by the middle mouse button. Place the mouse pointer on one of the loci and press the middle (adjust) button. Notice that a horizontal line appears across the window as shown in the figure. When you release the mouse button the map will be recentered on the position where the horizontal line was. In the example here, we have decided to recenter the map at tt4.

Next we will describe the functions of the buttons along the top of the window.
