The Physical Map II
At the very bottom of the physical map window is a cursor control that can be used to move from place to place in a contig and to change the horizontal scale of your view. This is shown in the accompanying figure. The lower green bar represents the contig in miniature, with the genetic markers serving as points of reference. To use the cursor, move the mouse pointer on or near the lower green bar and depress and hold the middle button. The two vertical lines that appear can be thought of as a viewfinder. Whatever lies between them on the miniature contig represents what will be seen in the upper part of the window as soon as the mouse button is released.
To adjust position, move the mouse horizontally while keeping the middle button depressed. The two lines move with the mouse and will bracket different regions on the miniature contig.

If you move the mouse pointer vertically, the viewfinder will expand and contract - down will contract, up will expand. Contracting the viewfinder until it is very narrow effectively asks ACeDB to stretch a tiny part of the contig across the physical map window (which magnifies the physical map).
There is a second cursor available in the physical map window. To use it, move the pointer until it is above the thick green line, then depress and hold the middle mouse button. The single vertical line that appears can be moved horizontally to recenter the map. Wherever the mouse button is released will become the new center. This cursor has no effect on scale.
The yellow sequence rectangle mentioned on the previous page, and still visible in the current figure, represents a link to information about the chalcone synthase DNA sequence. (tt4 is the mutant genetic locus for the Arabidopsis chs gene). Double-clicking this rectangle will create the window shown on the following page.
